Jim The Smoker

Part of my continuing series of photos I’m taking around the city in an attempt to capture the denizens of NYC in their natural state.

This particular one was shot at Astor Place right when you get off the 6 train. I’m not sure where he was going, my friend was busy getting a coffee and a cappuccino for me at the coffee truck stand. There was another old guy to my left I took pictures of who was also smoking, but I wasn’t quite brave enough to get the shot i wanted (working on that bravery thing). Along came Jim (that’s not his name but that’s what I’m going to name him cause…he looks like a Jim), he came, stood there, lit his cig and just started puffing away and staring off into god knows what. There was no bus stop there, but he was waiting for something, maybe waiting for life, maybe waiting for a friend, maybe my imagination gets the best of me and I need to just relax. Any way, thanks Jim, you made my day this time around

Gray's Papaya

I remember reading some Jerry Seinfeld book where he says there are two things that defines you as a Manhattanite

1. Be a constant visitor to The Strand Book Store

2. Dropping your laundry off and be clueless to the workings of a laundry machine I’d like to add a 3rd.

you MUST have add at most 5 Gray’s Papaya during your time in NYC
